We will cover the climates of Nigerian cities with the biggest population. Because of Nigeria’s size of  923 769km (356 669 square miles) and its diversity in climates most of the cities covered will have different types of climates.

Climate Lagos

It never really gets cold in Lagos due to its position by the Gulf of Guinea, this is why the city has higher minimum temperatures compared to other cities in Nigeria. The city experiences a lot of rain in the wet seasons, it rains about 1525 mm (60 inch) a year.

Climate Abuja

The capital of nigeria has a climate that is somewhat similar to that of Lagos. The major differrence between the two is that the dry season in Abuja has less rain. The city experiences about 1469 mm (58 inch) precipitation a year.

Kano is located in the north of Nigeria and has a steppe climate, the city has high maximum temperatures and low minimum temperatures. This can create some cold days in the dry season. It rains a lot less than the other mentioned cities. it rains 837 mm (33 inch) Annually in which almost all rain falls in the wet season.

Port Harcourt is a city located in the Nigerdelta, The city has a tropical monsoon climate and has 2294 mm (90 inch) of rain annually. The city often floods because of this rain causing damages in infrastructure.

Ibadan has a tropical savannah climate, with high temperatures year round. The city is located close to Lagos which is why these cities have such similar climates. Ibadan has an annual rainfall of 1233 mm (49 inch).
